Workum Internship - Summer 2019

Organization Description:

The Jacob Rader Marcus Center of the American Jewish Archives (AJA), located on the historic Cincinnati campus of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, was established in 1947 by renowned historian, Dr. Jacob Rader Marcus to collect, preserve, and make available for research, materials on the history of Jews and Jewish communities in the Western Hemisphere, including data of a political, economic, social, cultural, and religious nature.

Workum Job Description:

  • Assist in determining subject matter, researching, and writing for the AJA's online exhibit and social media content (http://americanjewisharchives.org/exhibits/). This may also include the development of educational and public relations materials relating to specific topics.

  • Assist the Executive Director and the Director of Programs with projects, research, and programs relating to special celebrations/topics (i.e. Jewish American Heritage Month and exhibits relating to Jewish American history).

  • Assist Archivists in any research requests that arise during the summer including those of the Executive Director, and visiting fellows.

  • All projects will allow the Workum Fellow to gain a level of familiarity with the vast collection of documents, pictures, and objects of the American Jewish Archives.

The Workum Intern will contribute to the workings of a unique research center and academic institution with an international reputation as the outstanding archival resource on the history of United States Jewry.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Major/Career Interests

Career in History, Law, Political Science, Public Policy, International Relations, etc.

Recommended Skills

Strong writing skills, effective and clear communication skills, experience in conducting research, experience working with the public
